Mendenhall Standoff Suspect Identified; Two People Found Dead Inside Home

MENDENHALL, Miss.  Authorities have identified the suspect involved in a lengthy standoff with law enforcement in Mendenhall as Cordarius Laray Hobbs.

According to officials, deputies initially responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check. Upon arriving at the scene, investigators reportedly discovered signs of a possible burglary and were met with gunfire.

During the incident, one deputy was struck by gunfire. Authorities said the injured deputy received medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

The situation escalated into a nearly six-hour standoff as law enforcement secured the area and attempted to resolve the incident. Officials say Hobbs eventually fled from the rear of the home but was apprehended by authorities shortly afterward.

Following the suspect’s capture, investigators entered the residence and discovered two deceased individuals inside. Authorities believe the victims were the homeowners, although their identities have not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has taken the lead in examining the incident and will work to determine exactly what occurred inside the home.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding possible charges, a motive, or the relationship between the suspect and the victims.

The investigation remains active, and authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
