Florida Realtor, Ex-Husband and Two Young Daughters Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide

DORAL, Fla. — A South Florida real estate professional, her former husband, and their two young daughters were found dead inside a home in Doral’s gated Doral Isles community on Tuesday evening in what authorities are investigating as a suspected murder-suicide.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Melanie Lauren Hyer, 46, her ex-husband Ryan Charles Whiten, 42, and their daughters, Savannah, 11, and Sienna, 8.

According to investigators, Doral police officers responded to the residence near Northwest 111th Court and 72nd Terrace at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 2 after a concerned family friend requested a welfare check. Upon entering the home, officers discovered all four family members unresponsive with apparent stab wounds.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene and pronounced all four victims dead.

Authorities said preliminary findings indicate that all four victims suffered fatal stab wounds. While the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, detectives have not publicly identified who was responsible for inflicting the injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Court records show that Hyer and Whiten finalized their divorce in April 2024 after being married for just over two years. Records also indicate that Whiten had previously been married to another man, with that marriage ending in March 2026.

The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, particularly the schools attended by the couple’s daughters. Officials from Downtown Doral Charter Schools confirmed that Savannah and Sienna were students and released a statement expressing their sorrow.

“Our community is mourning the loss of two of our beloved students. Our heartfelt sympathies are with their families, friends, faculty and staff at our schools. These students will be deeply missed.”

Friends, neighbors, and community members have also expressed shock and grief as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss of an entire family.

Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau continue to work alongside the county Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities have not released information regarding a possible motive, nor have they disclosed whether there were any previous calls for service at the residence.

The investigation remains active, and officials say additional details may be released as they become available.
