Motorcyclist Killed in Early-Morning Crash on U.S. 50 Highway in Lee’s Summit

A motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on U.S. Route 50 in Lee’s Summit, according to police.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 4:00 a.m. to the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 Highway near the O’Brien Road overpass after receiving reports of a motorcycle in the median.

When officers arrived, they located the motorcycle and its sole occupant in the median. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lee’s Summit Police Department said investigators with its Traffic Unit are reconstructing the crash to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 50 Highway were closed for several hours while authorities processed the scene and conducted their investigation. The roadway has since reopened.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
