💔 19-Year-Old Woman Killed in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Cottonwood Heights

A Utah community is mourning the tragic loss of Norah Bronwyn Nelson, 19, who was fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide inside a Cottonwood Heights home on May 30.

According to the Cottonwood Heights Police Department, officers responded to a residence after family members returned home and discovered two women deceased inside a bedroom.

Investigators identified the victims as Norah Bronwyn Nelson and her mother, Heather Dawn Nelson, 51.

Police said Norah suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while investigators believe Heather died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detectives are treating the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.

Authorities stated that Heather had been living at a separate residence in Midvale for about a year and reportedly had limited contact with her daughter in the months leading up to the tragedy.

According to investigators, the incident is believed to have been influenced by the mother’s mental health struggles. However, the full circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

Norah is remembered by loved ones as a young woman with her future ahead of her. According to her obituary, she graduated from Brighton High School in 2025 and worked at Twisted Sugar in Cottonwood Heights.

The heartbreaking loss has left family members, friends, classmates, coworkers, and the wider community grieving.
