Friends Mourn “Mont DaDon” Montemarano After Long Island Kayaking Tragedy

Heartbreak and disbelief have swept through the Long Island community following the deaths of two missing kayakers who vanished over the weekend in Shinnecock Bay.

Police confirmed that 25-year-old Aaron “Mont DaDon” Montemarano, of Riverhead, and his friend 27-year-old Shane Garcia were both found dead after an extensive search. According to the Southampton Town Police Department, Garcia was discovered underwater by New York State Police divers on Sunday, and Montemarano’s body was located Monday morning.

Authorities said the pair were last seen kayaking near Shinnecock East County Park, where their abandoned kayaks were later found. Investigators believe rough water conditions may have contributed to the tragic accident.

Friends and family have flooded social media with emotional tributes to Montemarano, describing him as a loyal friend, devoted son, and “an amazing soul who lit up every room.” One post read, “I feel so bad I missed your calls, nephew. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart. RIP Mont.” Another friend added, “Rest in paradise A. May your light continue to shine. We’ll love you to the moon and back.”

The community continues to rally around both families as they grieve the devastating loss of two young men gone far too soon.
