Victim Identified in Fatal Near-Northwest Side Shooting as 

Authorities have identified Ashley Sanders as the victim in a fatal shooting on the near northwest side of Indianapolis late Tuesday night. Steven Baker Jr., 38, has been arrested in connection with her death.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2025, around 11:42 p.m., when officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 1400 block of West 34th Street. Upon arrival, they found Ashley Sanders, a woman in her 30s, suffering from a gunshot wound. Tragically, Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene.

Minutes after the shooting, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description near 33rd Street and North Harding Street. After a brief struggle, Steven Baker Jr. was taken into custody. Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute, although further details about the relationship between Baker and Sanders are still being explored.

Baker was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine final charges.

The IMPD continues to investigate, urging anyone with further information to contact them.
