Victim Identified in Deadly Spartanburg County Crash
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified one of the victims in a deadly crash that occurred two weeks ago on Old Furnace Road near Southland Road.
Authorities say 62-year-old Charles Darrin Smith was killed when a 2000 Ford SUV veered off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, overturned, and crashed into a tree. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) confirmed that both the driver and a passenger were killed in the violent crash.
Officials have not yet clarified whether Smith was driving or riding as a passenger at the time of the collision. The crash remains under investigation by SCHP and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
This tragic incident adds to a growing number of deadly crashes in the region this year, prompting continued reminders from law enforcement for drivers to remain alert, obey speed limits, and wear seat belts at all times.
More details are expected to be released as investigators work to determine the exact cause of the crash and the identities of all involved parties.
