UPDATE: Shelter-in-Place Lifted at Morrish and Elms Elementary
The Michigan State Police confirmed that the situation near Miller and Dye roads has been fully contained, and the shelter-in-place at Morrish Elementary and Elms Elementary has been lifted. Officials say all students and staff are safe, and normal school operations have now resumed.
Earlier in the day, both schools were placed under a shelter-in-place order due to reports of an active shooter situation in the surrounding area. Authorities stressed that at no point were students or staff in direct danger.
A shelter-in-place procedure means that everyone remains inside the school building while teaching and regular activities continue in as safe a manner as possible. The precaution was taken to ensure maximum safety while law enforcement secured the area.
Parents and community members are being thanked for their patience and cooperation during the situation. Police say additional updates will be provided if more details become available.
