Teen Killed, Seven Injured in Mass Stabbing at Manitoba First Nation

Hollow Water First Nation, Manitoba – September 4, 2025
An 18-year-old woman was killed and seven others injured in a mass stabbing early Thursday morning in the remote Hollow Water First Nation community, about 200 km northeast of Winnipeg, police said.

The suspect, 26-year-old Tyrone Simard, also died after crashing a stolen car into a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) vehicle while fleeing the scene. A policewoman was critically injured in the collision but is expected to recover.

RCMP confirmed that the victims and suspect were all known to each other. Investigators revealed that the woman killed was Simard’s sister. Officers are still going door-to-door to ensure community safety.

Local leaders expressed grief and urged unity. “The community is all shaken up… it is not something that happens in Hollow Water,” said resident Christy Williams, whose father was among the injured.

The attack comes on the third anniversary of the James Smith Cree Nation mass stabbing in Saskatchewan, which left 11 people dead in 2022.
