Teen Fatally Shot by Cousin During Shooting Into Nashville Home
A 17-year-old has been identified as the victim of a tragic shooting that occurred earlier this month at the Forest Park Apartments in Bellevue. Police say the teen, Ja’Quan Nolan, was shot in the back of the head by his own cousin while the suspect was firing into an occupied apartment.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 19-year-old Marquez Reed has been charged with criminal homicide, felony reckless endangerment, and use of a gun during a dangerous felony. Investigators say Reed was attempting to shoot into an apartment where a man, woman, and four small children were present when one of his bullets struck Nolan.
Reed is currently being held in Rutherford County Jail on unrelated auto burglary charges and will be transferred to Nashville to face prosecution.
Police also charged Malichi Cummins, 21, and a 16-year-old suspect with attempted murder and felony reckless endangerment for allegedly firing into the same apartment.
Authorities described the shooting as “reckless and tragic,” emphasizing that the gunfire endangered multiple innocent lives. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to piece together what led to the fatal exchange.
