Six Arrested in Jefferson Davis County Shooting That Killed Teen
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. — Six people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Gavin Fortenberry, who was killed last month at the Finish Line Drag Strip in the Lucas community.
The shooting occurred around 11:15 p.m. on August 17, 2025. Deputies said Fortenberry, a recent Camp Shelby graduate who was preparing to leave for the Air Force, was fatally shot during the incident. Four others were also injured.
The Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the following individuals have been charged in connection with Fortenberry’s death and other related offenses:

Authorities said Martin, Herron, and Harris voluntarily surrendered to deputies. Investigator Vernon Dampier added that charges have also been filed against two additional suspects, but their names will not be released until they are in custody.
The case remains under investigation as law enforcement continues to gather evidence and pursue the remaining suspects.
The loss of Fortenberry has deeply affected the Jefferson Davis County community. His family has called for justice, remembering him as a young man with a promising future and a strong commitment to service.
