Peoria Police Investigate Double Shooting; Victim Lamelo Gilbert Dies from Injuries

PEORIA, Ill. — A deadly shooting in Central Peoria Sunday night has left one man critically injured, and the other with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have since identified the deceased victim as Lamelo Gilbert.

Peoria Police responded to the 3200 block of North Isabell Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. Initially, officers did not find any victims at the scene. However, just moments later, police located two people suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near Isabell and West Merle Lane.

Lamelo Gilbert, a 29-year-old man, was rushed to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. A woman in the vehicle, who has not yet been identified, also sustained a gunshot wound. She was treated at the hospital and is expected to recover.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses in the area.

No arrests have been made as of yet, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

As the investigation continues, residents of Peoria are left grappling with the shock of the incident, which has brought renewed attention to gun violence in the area.
