34-Year-Old Jacob Lane Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Blue Jay Road in Effingham County
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of 34-year-old Jacob Lane late Friday night on Blue Jay Road near Finch Lane.
Deputies responded to reports of the crash shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered that Lane’s vehicle had veered off the road on the right side, crossed over Finch Lane, and struck a utility pole. Authorities confirmed that Lane died from his injuries at the scene.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
In a touching update, the Sheriff’s Office shared that Lane’s dog, Roxy, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Thanks to the efforts of a Good Samaritan, Roxy was safely located and cared for until she was reunited with Lane’s family.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the incident to determine contributing factors such as speed, impairment, or mechanical failure.
Community members have expressed condolences to Lane’s loved ones as they mourn the loss of a man remembered for his kindness and his bond with his beloved pet.
