34-Year-Old Jacob Lane Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Blue Jay Road in Effingham County

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of 34-year-old Jacob Lane late Friday night on Blue Jay Road near Finch Lane.

Deputies responded to reports of the crash shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered that Lane’s vehicle had veered off the road on the right side, crossed over Finch Lane, and struck a utility pole. Authorities confirmed that Lane died from his injuries at the scene.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

In a touching update, the Sheriff’s Office shared that Lane’s dog, Roxy, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Thanks to the efforts of a Good Samaritan, Roxy was safely located and cared for until she was reunited with Lane’s family.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the incident to determine contributing factors such as speed, impairment, or mechanical failure.

73-Year-Old Gary Cooney Dies Following Two-Vehicle Crash in Millsboro

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of 73-year-old Gary Cooney of Millsboro following a collision on Millsboro Highway Friday morning, October 24.

According to investigators, the crash occurred around 11 a.m. when a Mazda, stopped on Millsboro Highway just past Mumford Road, was waiting to make a left turn into a private driveway. At the same time, an Oldsmobile traveling behind the Mazda attempted to pass on the left for reasons still under investigation.

As the Mazda began turning left, the Oldsmobile swerved off the roadway, striking two garbage cans before crashing into the driver’s side of the Mazda. The impact caused the Mazda to veer into a nearby tree.

Police say the Mazda’s driver, a 69-year-old woman from Millsboro, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later released from the hospital. Her passenger, Gary Cooney, also from Millsboro, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he tragically died the following morning, October 25.

The 34-year-old driver of the Oldsmobile, also from Millsboro, was not injured in the crash.

The roadway remained closed for approximately two hours as the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted an investigation.

Victim of Fatal Shooting in South St. Louis Identified as Stanley Scott

The victim of a fatal shooting early Sunday, October 26, in South St. Louis has been identified as Stanley Scott, a 32-year-old man.

St. Louis police responded to the shooting around 12:20 a.m. in the 2800 block of Gasconade Street. Upon arrival, they found Scott critically injured and witnesses attempting to assist him. Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived, and he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Family and friends have since taken to social media to mourn the loss of Scott, sharing heartfelt tributes and expressing disbelief. One emotional post read, “I love you, brother 💔”, while another said, “Stan the man, this hurts so much. Gone too soon.”

The circumstances surrounding Scott’s death remain under investigation, and police have not made any arrests or released additional details about the suspect or motive. Detectives are canvassing the area for witnesses or surveillance footage that could help solve the case.

Authorities arrested a 55-year-old man, identified as Harold Newton Keene, following a shooting Saturday afternoon inside the Austin Central Library that left one person seriously injured and triggered a temporary shelter-in-place in downtown Austin.

The Austin Police Department (APD) said officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 12:00 p.m. at the library, located at 710 W. César Chávez Street. Upon arrival, police and Austin-Travis County EMS found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

Assistant Police Chief Lee Rogers confirmed that the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Following a citywide search, Keene was located and arrested in South Austin around 1:25 p.m. The library was evacuated, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted after his apprehension.

Authorities described the incident as isolated, emphasizing that it was not an active shooter situation. Investigators are still working to determine the motive and relationship, if any, between Keene and the victim.

Public records show Keene has an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests for assault, family violence, burglary, terroristic threats, and drug possession. He had also been accused earlier this year of threatening a man with a firearm and assaulting an inmate while in custody.

19-Year-Old Identified in Fatal Colorado Springs Crash Along Uintah Street
