Lincoln University Shooting Suspect Identified as 21-Year-Old Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson
What was meant to be a joyous Homecoming celebration at Lincoln University, one of the nation’s first Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), ended in tragedy when gunfire broke out on Saturday evening, leaving one person dead and six others injured.
The fatal shooting took place outside the International Cultural Center, where a tailgate event was in full swing after the university’s Homecoming football game. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with attendees running for safety as tents and tables were scattered across the parking lot.
Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, a 21-year-old suspect, has been arrested and is being held at Chester County Prison on a $25,000 bail. He faces charges of carrying a firearm without a license.
The deceased victim, 25-year-old Jujuan Jeffers from Wilmington, Delaware, was tragically shot in the head. His identity was initially withheld pending family notification.
Six additional victims, all aged between 20 and 25, were injured in the shooting. Thankfully, authorities have stated that all are expected to recover.
Investigators believe that the shooting was not premeditated and stemmed from an altercation that escalated. Chester County Detectives, with support from the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police, are reviewing surveillance footage, collecting ballistic evidence, and conducting witness interviews to uncover the motive.
In light of the tragedy, Lincoln University has canceled classes for October 27, calling the day a “healing and reflection” day. University Police Chief Marc Partee expressed his devastation over the incident, saying, “We set this out to be a time to celebrate the legacy of Lincoln University…Devastated is a start.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage related to the shooting to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. The investigation is ongoing, and more updates will follow as details emerge.
