In Loving Memory of Luke Harney

Formerly of Grannagh, Kilmacow, County Kilkenny, Luke passed away peacefully on Monday at University Hospital Waterford, surrounded by his loving family. He was 33 years old.

Predeceased by his grandparents Gerry and Pearl (Harney), Mick and Molly (Fell), and his mother-in-law Teresa (Ryan), Luke’s passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who loved him most.

He will be forever missed by his cherished fiancée Natasha (Tash), his adored daughters Holly and Sofia, heartbroken parents Paul and Jacinta, brother Gerry and sister-in-law Kristina, brothers Shane and Jake with their partners Cliona and Lauryn, father-in-law Willie, brother-in-law Keith and his wife Sharon, as well as his aunts, uncles, extended family, nieces and nephews Aoibhe, Sadhbh, Jack, Alfie, Toby, and Poppy, cousins, relatives, his GAA family, and a wide circle of treasured friends.

Funeral Arrangements

Reposing will take place on Wednesday at Donnacha Doyle & Sons Funeral Home, Grannagh, Kilmacow, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Arriving on Thursday at St. Senan’s Church, Kilmacow for Requiem Mass at 2:00 pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Taxi Driver Fatally Shot in San Juan

San Juan, Trinidad — Police are investigating the murder of a Santa Cruz taxi driver who was gunned down in San Juan on Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Alexis O’Conner of La Canoa Road, Santa Cruz.

According to reports, residents of La Fortune Hill, off Laventille Road, heard gunfire around 10 a.m. When they checked, they found O’Conner slumped behind the steering wheel of his AD Wagon taxi, his body riddled with bullets.

Officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force, including Cpl Daniel and PCs Gay, Khan, Jeffers, and Morris, quickly responded to the scene.

While investigating, police received additional information that another man had been shot inside a nearby house. That victim was rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle, but his condition remains unknown.

Homicide Region 1 and SERU CSI officers processed the scene. District Medical Officer Dr. Kalloo pronounced O’Conner dead and ordered his body removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine a motive for the shooting.

Decomposed Body Washes Ashore at Balandra Beach

Balandra, Trinidad — Police are working to identify a decomposed body that washed ashore at Balandra Beach on Sunday morning, marking the second body found along the northeast coast over the weekend.

The discovery was made around 8:30 a.m. by a villager who had been husking coconuts nearby. He was alerted by a foul odor and a flock of corbeaux circling the shoreline. Upon closer inspection, he found the body of a man lying on the beach in an advanced state of decomposition.

Reports indicate that the body was missing its right leg, and the face was unrecognizable. The villager immediately notified officers at the Matura Police Station, and a team led by Insp. Sankar, Sgt. Hazel, and PCs Ragoonath and Francis responded to the scene.

Authorities believe the deceased may be linked to a group of Venezuelan nationals reportedly traveling on a pirogue that was allegedly targeted by a U.S. Navy strike off Venezuela last week. The vessel was said to have been controlled by members of the Tren de Aragua gang and involved in drug trafficking.

The body was removed to the Sangre Grande Hospital mortuary, pending a postmortem examination ordered by District Medical Officer Dr. Belgrave.

This latest find follows another grim discovery on Friday, when a badly decomposed body was located on the Cumana coastline. That body was missing its right hand and foot, had burns on the torso, and was found with a piece of clothing wrapped around the neck.

Police investigations remain ongoing.
