Man Killed in Early-Morning Hit-and-Run in the Bronx
THE BRONX, N.Y. — The NYPD is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 30-year-old man early Sunday morning.
Authorities say the collision occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near the Major Deegan Expressway and Mosholu Parkway. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim lying unconscious in the roadway with significant trauma to his head and body.
Emergency responders rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead a short time later. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
Investigators have not yet determined what the victim was doing in the roadway when the crash occurred. At this stage, police have no description of the vehicle involved, and the driver remains at large. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area in hopes of identifying the suspect.
The deadly incident has left community members in shock, as residents near the Major Deegan say reckless driving and high speeds are ongoing concerns in the area.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, stressing that even small details could help them track down the driver responsible. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is leading the case.
