Man Fatally Shot Outside Workplace After Confronting Suspected Thief

A Minneapolis man was shot and killed early Thursday morning after confronting a suspected thief outside his workplace, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7 a.m. in the 2600 block of 32nd Avenue South, where officers found a man in his 40s lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound to the torso. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the victim confronted an individual who was attempting to steal items from a vehicle. During a brief struggle, the suspect shot the victim once before fleeing. A coworker discovered the victim about 20 minutes later and called 911.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the incident “senseless and tragic,” stressing that no property is worth a person’s life. Authorities noted an uptick in thefts in the area, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

The suspect has not yet been identified, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Minneapolis Police Department as the investigation continues.
