Man Fatally Shot in South Minneapolis Early Monday Morning

Police say a man in his 40s was shot and killed early Monday in south Minneapolis.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded around 1 a.m. to a ShotSpotter activation in the 1900 block of Elliot Avenue. At the same time, Metro Transit officers stationed near Chicago Avenue and East Franklin Avenue also reported hearing gunfire.

When police arrived, they discovered a man lying in the front yard of a residence with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers immediately provided medical aid, but tragically, the victim died at the scene.

Investigators with the Minneapolis Police Department are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. Forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s identity, along with his official cause and manner of death, at a later time.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or named suspects in the case.
