September 5, 2025

A shocking domestic tragedy has left the Universal City community reeling after 41-year-old Wilma Medina, the wife of Lieutenant Eseosa Ehanire of the Universal City Police Department, was arrested for the fatal stabbing of her 9-year-old son, David Medina-Ehanire, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The incident, which unfolded just before 5:00 a.m. at the family’s home on Zodiac Drive, has shaken both residents and law enforcement officers, who are struggling to process the devastating loss.

What Happened?

According to investigators, Lieutenant Ehanire had just returned home from his overnight shift when he heard screams coming from a locked bedroom. Forcing the door open, he discovered his son, David, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso, while Wilma Medina was in the process of inflicting harm on herself with a dagger-style knife.

Lieutenant Ehanire managed to disarm her, move her to the bathroom, and call 911. Despite being rushed to the hospital, David was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that his cause of death was sharp-force injuries, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Who Was David Medina-Ehanire?

David, just 9 years old, was described by those who knew him as a bright, affectionate, and energetic child with a passion for learning. His unexpected death has left family, friends, and the Universal City community in profound grief.

For Lieutenant Ehanire, who personally intervened in the tragedy, the loss of his son has been described as “unimaginable” by colleagues and supporters.

The Arrest of Wilma Medina

Medina was treated for her self-inflicted wounds before being booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of capital murder of a person under 10. Her bond has been set at $600,000.

Authorities noted that she displayed signs of severe psychological distress during and after the incident. She allegedly made paranoid statements about people “following her” and fears that her son was in danger at school. She also expressed despair, reportedly saying: “There’s no going back,” “I cannot live without him,” and “Let me die.”

Community and Social Media Reaction

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Universal City and the San Antonio area, with many expressing sympathy for Lieutenant Ehanire and his family. Tributes to David have flooded social media, while others have pointed to the urgent need for stronger mental health support, particularly within law enforcement families.

“This is heartbreaking beyond words,” wrote one community member. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ehanire family.”

Ongoing Investigation

The Universal City Police Department, in partnership with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, is continuing its investigation. While the precise motive remains unclear, officials have confirmed that Medina’s mental state is a key focus.

In a statement, the department said:

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for our department. Our thoughts and support are with Lieutenant Ehanire and his family during this incredibly difficult time.”
