Kinston Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting on Manning Street

KINSTON, N.C. — A 21-year-old man is in custody following a deadly shooting Tuesday morning that claimed the life of 31-year-old Ryechic Harper in Kinston.

According to the Kinston Police Department, officers responded to 405 Manning Street around 10:43 a.m. on October 28, 2025, after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Harper suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene identified Quandarius Rawl, 21, as the shooter. Police say Rawl fled the area before officers arrived and discarded the firearm in a wooded area near Pollock Street. About 45 minutes later, Rawl contacted 911 and voluntarily turned himself in to authorities. The weapon was later recovered and determined to have been stolen from Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Rawl has been charged with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

Police Chief Goyette called the incident “a senseless act of violence that claimed the life of a young man,” adding that the department remains committed to securing justice for Harper’s family.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Kinston Police Department or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers.
