First Images Released of Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting at Utah Valley University
OREM, Utah — Authorities have released the first images of the suspect accused of shooting Charlie Kirk, founder of the conservative youth group Turning Point USA, during a campus event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Law enforcement confirmed that a single shot was fired, striking the 31-year-old activist as he addressed a crowd. Emergency personnel provided immediate medical aid before transporting him for further treatment. His condition has not yet been made public.
According to a university emergency alert, the suspect was quickly apprehended by campus and local police, preventing further harm. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the wider community.
Viral video from the scene captured the moments after the gunfire, showing attendees scrambling for cover as law enforcement secured the area.
The incident has already drawn national attention. Utah Senator Mike Lee urged prayers for Kirk and those on campus, writing on social media that he is closely monitoring the investigation. Vice President JD Vance also posted a message of support, calling Kirk “a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
While images of the suspect have now been made public, investigators have not yet released the individual’s name or disclosed a possible motive.
