Fatal Crash Claims Pedestrian’s Life Near Shellharbour

SHELLHARBOUR, NSW — A man has died after being struck by a vehicle on the M1 Princes Highway late Saturday night, prompting a major police investigation.

Emergency services were called to the highway at Croom, roughly 8 kilometers west of Shellharbour, around 11:10 p.m. on September 6, 2025, following reports of a serious collision.

Officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District responded and discovered that a pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s, had been hit by a passing vehicle. Despite efforts by NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his formal identity.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man, was not physically injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital where mandatory testing was carried out in accordance with standard procedures.

Police established a crime scene in the area and began examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators are working to determine how the pedestrian came to be on the busy highway at that hour and whether any contributing factors played a role.

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who may have been traveling in the vicinity at the time, especially motorists with dashcam footage, is urged to come forward.
