Family Pleads for Answers in the Death of Shane Eric James Smith, 20

The search for justice continues for 20-year-old Shane Eric James Smith, who was reported missing and is now believed to have been murdered in June 2020 in Calgary’s McKenzie Towne neighborhood.

Born on October 16, 1999, Shane was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose kindness touched everyone who knew him. He lived in Chestermere with his family and was remembered for his gentle nature, passion for cars, and deep love for animals — especially his cat, Jewel, who rarely left his side.

Investigators believe Shane’s disappearance was the result of foul play, and a suspect has been charged in connection with his death. However, Shane’s body has never been found, leaving his family in a painful state of uncertainty and heartbreak. His parents, Shirley and Bill Smith, along with his sister Cassie, continue to hope that someone will come forward with information to help bring Shane home and give them long-awaited closure.

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of Shane’s whereabouts to contact Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Though his life was cut tragically short, Shane’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him — remembered as a loyal friend, a devoted son, and a young man whose compassion and light will never fade.
