Death of 2-Year-Old in Mark Twain Neighborhood Ruled Homicide
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Authorities have confirmed that the death of a 2-year-old boy in north St. Louis has been ruled a homicide following new findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Just after 10:40 p.m. on Monday, October 27, police responded to reports of an unresponsive child in the 4900 block of Thekla Avenue in the Mark Twain neighborhood. A second call soon came in from the area of I-70 and St. Louis Avenue, where emergency crews located the child and transported him to the hospital. Tragically, he was later pronounced deceased.
Initially investigated as a suspicious death, the case took a grim turn when the Medical Examiner’s Office discovered evidence of strangulation and other injuries. The child has been identified as Bre’yeon Wells, age 2.
Two adults who were with the child were questioned and released pending further investigation. The Homicide Division has now assumed control of the case as detectives work to uncover the circumstances leading to the boy’s death.
