Coroner Identifies 23-Year-Old York Man Killed in Weekend Shooting

Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal early-morning shooting in York City as 23-year-old Jyteek Christie, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

Police say the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of West Jackson Street, the same block where Christie lived. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Christie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to WellSpan York Hospital, where medical staff attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at 6:19 a.m. The coroner confirmed that an autopsy was scheduled for Monday to determine Christie’s exact cause and manner of death.

The York City Police Department continues to investigate the shooting, which is being treated as a homicide. Investigators have not released details about possible suspects or motives. Residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity in the area.

This deadly shooting occurred just hours after a separate shooting Friday night in the 700 block of West Poplar Street, where a woman was seriously injured. In that case, police arrested a man known to the victim on attempted homicide charges.

Anyone with information regarding Christie’s death is asked to contact Detective Commander Andy Baez at abaez@yorkcity.org, submit a tip online, or call the York City Police Tip Line at (717) 849-2204.

Police say all information will remain confidential as the investigation continues.
