Man Dies by Suicide as Firefighters Battle Blaze at His Gwinnett County Home
ATLANTA, Ga. – A tragic scene unfolded in Gwinnett County Thursday morning after a man died by suicide while firefighters worked to put out a fire at his home in Buford.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Bogan Road NE, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from the two-story residence. While assessing the scene, crews encountered a man in the woods behind the house who assured them that nobody was inside.
As crews battled the blaze, they saw the same man again — this time armed with a shotgun. Authorities said he did not threaten firefighters or interfere with their work.
Gwinnett County Police were called, and officers later discovered the man had died by suicide on a nearby property. Investigators confirmed that the home belonged to him.
The man’s identity has not been released, and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
