Man Dies by Suicide as Firefighters Battle Blaze at His Gwinnett County Home

ATLANTA, Ga. – A tragic scene unfolded in Gwinnett County Thursday morning after a man died by suicide while firefighters worked to put out a fire at his home in Buford.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Bogan Road NE, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from the two-story residence. While assessing the scene, crews encountered a man in the woods behind the house who assured them that nobody was inside.

As crews battled the blaze, they saw the same man again — this time armed with a shotgun. Authorities said he did not threaten firefighters or interfere with their work.

Gwinnett County Police were called, and officers later discovered the man had died by suicide on a nearby property. Investigators confirmed that the home belonged to him.

The man’s identity has not been released, and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Utah Man Arrested With Six Times Legal Alcohol Limit; Also Tested Positive for THC

Salt Lake City, Utah — Authorities say a Utah man, identified as McIntyre, was taken into custody after being found behind the wheel with a blood alcohol concentration more than six times the legal limit, along with drugs in his system.

According to arresting officer Owens, McIntyre appeared heavily impaired at the scene.

“He was very, very out of it. He didn’t seem to know what was happening. His truck reeked of alcohol,” Owens reported.

During standard field sobriety tests, McIntyre was allegedly unable to stand. Officers then administered a breath intoxylizer test, which showed a staggering 0.307 Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).

For comparison, Utah’s legal limit is 0.05 — the strictest in the nation. At 0.307, experts note that drivers are at serious risk of losing consciousness, or even death from alcohol poisoning.

McIntyre later submitted to a urine test, which came back positive for THC, the active component in marijuana, as well as Ethylglucuronide, a biomarker that confirms recent alcohol consumption.

Legal Consequences

Authorities confirmed McIntyre was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), among other related charges. If convicted, he could face significant fines, license suspension, and possible jail time, especially given the extreme level of impairment recorded.

Utah Highway Patrol has urged residents to use this case as a reminder of the dangers of impaired driving.

“This level of intoxication is not only illegal, it’s life-threatening — both to the driver and to everyone else on the road,” a spokesperson said.

The case remains under investigation, and McIntyre is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
