Suspect Identified in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Daquavius Royalston in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Atlanta police have identified Quinterrious Kyson Turner as the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Daquavius Royalston, who was tragically killed while returning to his own home over Labor Day weekend.

    The Shooting

The incident occurred at a townhouse community on Mulberry Row in southeast Atlanta. According to police, Royalston was trying to enter his residence when Turner allegedly fired, mistakenly believing the teenager was an intruder.

Royalston’s mother, Kelsea Royalston, described the loss as “unbearable” and said she is still struggling to comprehend how her son, simply returning home, could be killed in such a senseless act.

“Daquavius was just coming back to his house,” Kelsea said. “He wasn’t hurting anyone. He didn’t deserve this.”

    Suspect Details

Authorities say Quinterrious Kyson Turner is still at large. Turner has a criminal history, including recent time served for aggravated battery, according to public records. Police have not yet disclosed whether Turner has been linked to other incidents in the area.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about Turner’s whereabouts to contact the Atlanta Police Department immediately.

    Community Reaction

The community has been deeply affected by the teenager’s death. Residents gathered at Pittman Park in southwest Atlanta to honor Daquavius’ life, leaving flowers, candles, and personal messages in his memory. Friends and neighbors described him as a bright, caring, and promising young man whose life was tragically cut short.

“He was a good kid. Always smiling, always polite,” said a friend who attended the vigil. “It’s hard to believe he’s gone.”

Community leaders have also called for greater safety measures in the area, emphasizing the need to protect children and young adults from violence. “This is a heartbreaking reminder of how vulnerable our youth are,” one advocate said. “We need to ensure our neighborhoods are safe for families.”

    Investigation

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. While the motive appears to have been a mistaken identity, officers are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to gather additional evidence.

Authorities remind residents to report any information that could help locate Turner and prevent further tragedy.

    Remembering Daquavius

Daquavius Royalston is remembered as a loving son, a devoted friend, and a vibrant teenager with a bright future ahead. His family, friends, and the broader Atlanta community continue to mourn his loss, reflecting on the senselessness of the crime.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities hope that the public will assist in bringing Turner to justice, while the community seeks ways to honor the memory of a young life lost too soon.

Thomas Goodson Identified as Victim in Stafford SWAT Standoff; Suspect Adrian Mercado Dead, Officer Survives Gunfire

STAFFORD, TX — A violent overnight SWAT standoff in Stafford ended with two people dead — including suspect Adrian Mercado, 35 — and one officer narrowly escaping serious injury after being struck by gunfire, according to the Stafford Police Department.

    How It Began

The incident started shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when a man walked into the Stafford Police Department and told officers that his son, Mercado, had killed someone at a home on Lawrence Lane near Stafford Road. The man warned police that Mercado was armed and dangerous.

Responding officers discovered the body of 32-year-old Thomas Goodson in the backyard of the residence. His remains had been wrapped in a blanket and concealed under plywood, investigators confirmed.

    Gunfire Erupts

As officers and a Missouri City K-9 Unit attempted to enter the home, Mercado opened fire. One Stafford officer was hit, but his radio deflected the bullet, saving his life. Despite the close call, the officer — a two-year veteran of the department — refused to leave the scene.

“He actually stayed on scene for a while; he did not want to leave. He wanted to see it through to the end. He wasn’t injured, so I commend him for trying to see the job through,” said Lt. Luciano Lopez.

    Standoff and SWAT Response

Gunfire continued intermittently for nearly 90 minutes, with bullets reportedly flying over responding officers’ heads. A multi-agency SWAT team was deployed, and the tense standoff stretched into the early morning hours.

When entry was finally made, officers found Mercado dead inside the home from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

    Suspect’s Background

Lt. Lopez confirmed that Mercado had a lengthy history with Stafford Police and was wanted on an aggravated robbery warrant at the time of the standoff.

Authorities have not yet determined the relationship between Mercado and Goodson.

    Ongoing Investigation

The Stafford Police Department and partnering agencies continue to investigate the deadly incident.

Good Samaritans Tried to Save Hamilton Man After Fatal Crash on I-85 in Troup County

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — Two strangers—a U.S. Army soldier and an off-duty firefighter—risked their lives to save a man they had never met after witnessing a crash early Thursday morning along Interstate 85 in Troup County.

Authorities say 48-year-old Cleveland Stallings of Hamilton was driving his grey GMC Sierra HD southbound near mile marker 26, just south of Hogansville, when his vehicle veered from the left lane into the median. The truck struck a guardrail, careened through trees, and plunged down an embankment into Flat Creek.

The Army soldier and firefighter immediately rushed toward the water, pulling Stallings from the submerged vehicle and performing CPR on the creek bank in the darkness of the early morning hours. Despite their heroic efforts, Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley pronounced Stallings dead at the scene.

The crash led to a full closure of I-85 southbound until 1:45 p.m., as crews worked to recover the vehicle and investigators began piecing together what caused Stallings to lose control.

Stallings’ death has left his community and loved ones in mourning, while many are commending the bravery and quick response of the two Good Samaritans who fought desperately to give him a chance at survival.

Our thoughts remain with Cleveland Stallings’ family during this difficult time.

    September 5, 2025

A shocking domestic tragedy has left the Universal City community reeling after 41-year-old Wilma Medina, the wife of Lieutenant Eseosa Ehanire of the Universal City Police Department, was arrested for the fatal stabbing of her 9-year-old son, David Medina-Ehanire, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The incident, which unfolded just before 5:00 a.m. at the family’s home on Zodiac Drive, has shaken both residents and law enforcement officers, who are struggling to process the devastating loss.

According to investigators, Lieutenant Ehanire had just returned home from his overnight shift when he heard screams coming from a locked bedroom. Forcing the door open, he discovered his son, David, suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso, while Wilma Medina was in the process of inflicting harm on herself with a dagger-style knife.

Lieutenant Ehanire managed to disarm her, move her to the bathroom, and call 911. Despite being rushed to the hospital, David was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that his cause of death was sharp-force injuries, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

She allegedly made paranoid statements about people “following her” and fears that her son was in danger at school.
