Homicide Victim Identified as Dorian Johnson in Ferguson Shooting
The Ferguson Police Department has identified the victim in Sunday morning’s fatal shooting as Dorian Johnson, a figure known nationally for his connection to the 2014 death of Michael Brown Jr.
According to authorities, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 9000 block of Abaco Drive at approximately 8:30 a.m. on September 7, 2025. Upon arrival, they located an adult Black male suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, the victim was later pronounced dead.
Police confirmed that one person has been taken into custody in relation to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with information to contact the Ferguson Police Department at 314-522-3100.
Officials have also clarified circulating rumors, stating that this was not an officer-involved shooting. No Ferguson officers—or law enforcement officers from any other department—were involved in the incident aside from responding and initiating the investigation.
Dorian Johnson’s name became widely recognized more than a decade ago, when he was walking alongside Michael Brown Jr. on August 9, 2014, moments before Brown was fatally shot by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. That tragedy ignited nationwide protests and remains a pivotal moment in discussions about race and policing in America.
As news of Johnson’s death spreads, friends, family, and community members have been expressing their grief and sharing tributes online. Updates regarding the investigation will be released as more details become available.
