California Man Accused of Dating App Murders Previously Used White Mask in Burglary Spree
LOS ANGELES — A California man accused of luring victims through a dating app and killing them has been charged with multiple felonies, prosecutors announced this week.
Rockim Prowell, 34, of Inglewood, faces two counts of murder with special circumstances, one count of attempted murder, carjacking, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. If convicted, he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
Investigators allege Prowell met his victims online before attacking them. His first known victim, Miguel Angel King, 51, was killed in July 2021. King’s car was found near Prowell’s home, and his remains were discovered weeks later in the Angeles National Forest.
In August 2023, Robert Gutierrez, 53, disappeared after arranging a meeting near Prowell’s residence. His body has not been located, but authorities found his vehicle in Prowell’s garage along with additional evidence linking Prowell to his disappearance.
Prosecutors say Prowell struck again in February 2025, when he allegedly bound, robbed, and beat a 40-year-old man he had met online. The victim escaped but was later run down by Prowell in a vehicle, leaving him with a broken leg.
Authorities also revealed Prowell is on probation for a string of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles burglaries between 2019 and 2021, during which he wore a silicone mask resembling a White man’s face. The disguise was recovered by police during prior investigations.
The case remains under review as prosecutors consider pursuing the death penalty.
