Heartbreak in Evergreen: Community Grieves After High School Shooting
We are heartbroken by today’s shooting at Evergreen High School. Our thoughts are with the wounded students who remain in critical condition, and we are holding onto hope for their full recovery. We commend the swift response of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and first responders who acted quickly during this tragedy.
No child should ever face this kind of terror in their classroom, and no family should have to endure such fear. Yet once again, our kids are bearing the brunt of America’s gun violence crisis — a reality that no community should ever have to face.
Colorado knows this pain all too well. From Columbine, to STEM School Highlands Ranch, to Arapahoe High School, and now Evergreen, our state has endured tragedy after tragedy in our schools. Each one is a devastating reminder that we cannot accept a world where students, educators, and families are left to carry this heavy burden.
Our hearts are with the Evergreen community as they navigate the shock and grief of this senseless act. We stand ready to support students, families, and educators as they begin to heal.
