Leonard Thomas Fatally Shot After Argument at Groesbeck’s Hawkins Park, Police Investigating

A man identified as Leonard Thomas has died following a shooting early Monday morning at Hawkins Park in Groesbeck, Texas, according to the Groesbeck Police Department.

Authorities say officers responded around 4 a.m. to reports of gunfire near the 100 block of South Waco Street and 400 block of West State Street. When police arrived, they found Thomas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Limestone Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries, confirmed Precinct One Justice of the Peace Marcus Hanna.

Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Thomas and another individual, who fled the scene before officers arrived. Police have not yet identified or located the suspect.

The investigation remains active with assistance from the Texas Rangers and Mart Police Department. Officials are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact the Groesbeck Police Department at (254) 729-3497.

This marks one of the latest acts of gun violence to shake the small Limestone County community, leaving residents calling for peace and justice in the wake of Thomas’s tragic death.
