MURRAY, Utah (ABC4) — A motorcyclist was critically injured Tuesday night following a collision on State Route 173 near 5400 South and 1070 West in Murray.

According to the Murray Police Department (MPD), the crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. and involved a motorcycle and another vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived on scene, where they found the male motorcyclist suffering from significant injuries. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. A crash reconstruction team was deployed to piece together the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) reported that the crash caused major traffic disruptions in the area. Multiple lanes of State Route 173 were closed, including all lanes and the right shoulder, as well as the exit ramp at 1070 West. Law enforcement officials diverted traffic, urging travelers to avoid the area during the investigation and cleanup.

Initial estimates suggested the closures would last until about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, though officials cautioned that timeline could change depending on the investigation. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes to minimize congestion and delays.

As of late Tuesday night, the motorcyclist’s identity has not been released, and no further details about the cause of the crash have been provided. Authorities continue to investigate what led to the collision.
