1 Dead, 6 Injured in Shooting During Homecoming at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania
A night meant for celebration turned tragic at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania when gunfire erupted during the school’s Homecoming weekend, leaving one person dead and six others injured, according to officials.
The shooting occurred Saturday night outside the International Cultural Center, where crowds had gathered for Homecoming festivities. Authorities say seven people were struck by gunfire as chaos broke out, with several others injured while trying to flee.
“We’re devastated to announce that one person has died and six others have been struck by gunfire,” said Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe during an early Sunday news conference. One person carrying a gun has been detained, though investigators believe there may have been multiple shooters. The motive remains unclear.
Officials emphasized that this does not appear to be a targeted mass attack on the university. Local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI, are now assisting with the investigation.
Students described scenes of panic as people ran for cover, with several being trampled amid the confusion. Multiple victims were transported to nearby hospitals in Delaware for treatment.
The campus lockdown has been lifted, but the shooting site remains an active crime scene. The university announced that counseling services will be available to students beginning Sunday morning.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences and pledged state support, saying, “Join Lori and me in praying for the Lincoln University community.”
The tragedy follows another shooting near Howard University in Washington, D.C., just one day earlier, marking another violent blow to historically Black colleges during Homecoming season.
