70-Year-Old Man Killed in Violent Attack on Far South Side
CHICAGO — Police are investigating a deadly assault after a 70-year-old man was beaten to death at a CTA bus shelter in Washington Heights on Monday night.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the attack occurred around 9 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Halsted Street. Officers responded to reports of a man suffering from head trauma and found the elderly victim at the scene.
Authorities believe the man was pushed to the ground and beaten by an unidentified male offender, who then fled before police arrived.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
Investigation Ongoing
At this time, investigators have not determined what sparked the attack. No arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The incident adds to growing concerns about safety at public transit stops across the city.
