Police Identify Teen Victims in Deadly Mini Bike Crash in Riviera Beach
Authorities have released the identities of two teenagers involved in a tragic crash that claimed one life and left another injured Saturday afternoon in Riviera Beach.
According to the Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD), the crash occurred around 3 p.m. in the 600 block of West Blue Heron Boulevard. Officers say 16-year-old Lindy Douglas, of Riviera Beach, was driving a mini bike with 17-year-old Joell Banks, of Loxahatchee, riding as a passenger.
Investigators report the mini bike veered into oncoming traffic and was struck by a Nissan Sentra that was traveling eastbound and reportedly above the posted speed limit. Both teens were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where Douglas succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon. Banks sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover.
Police noted that neither teen was wearing a helmet, and the mini bike involved was not street legal. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
This heartbreaking crash has left the Riviera Beach community mourning the loss of a young life gone too soon.
