Taxi Driver Fatally Shot in San Juan
San Juan, Trinidad — Police are investigating the murder of a Santa Cruz taxi driver who was gunned down in San Juan on Sunday morning.
The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Alexis O’Conner of La Canoa Road, Santa Cruz.
According to reports, residents of La Fortune Hill, off Laventille Road, heard gunfire around 10 a.m. When they checked, they found O’Conner slumped behind the steering wheel of his AD Wagon taxi, his body riddled with bullets.
Officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force, including Cpl Daniel and PCs Gay, Khan, Jeffers, and Morris, quickly responded to the scene.
While investigating, police received additional information that another man had been shot inside a nearby house. That victim was rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle, but his condition remains unknown.
Homicide Region 1 and SERU CSI officers processed the scene. District Medical Officer Dr. Kalloo pronounced O’Conner dead and ordered his body removed to the Forensic Science Centre.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine a motive for the shooting.
