Victim Identified in Fatal Maui Crash
The Maui Police Department has identified the victim of Thursday’s deadly single-vehicle crash on Makena Road as 47-year-old Joseph Donaldson of League City, Texas.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. on October 30, 2025, about 1.1 miles south of Oneloa Beach South Road. Preliminary investigations indicate that Donaldson was driving a black 2024 BMW X5 southbound when the vehicle crossed the center line, left the roadway, and collided with rocks on both shoulders before overturning and coming to rest on its roof.
Donaldson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 46-year-old Texas woman, was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, while the possible involvement of alcohol or drugs remains under investigation.
This marks Maui County’s 15th traffic fatality of 2025, compared to 13 at this time last year. The Maui Police Department extended its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Donaldson.
