Man in Critical Condition Following Early Morning Shooting in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A man remains in critical condition after an early morning shooting on Jordan Lane in Huntsville, according to the Huntsville Police Department (HPD).

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Officers were dispatched to reports of gunfire in a parking lot along Jordan Lane. Upon arrival, officers quickly located the suspected gunman, identified as 26-year-old Christopher Devaughn Spencer, a Huntsville resident.

Authorities reported that not far from where Spencer was detained, they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders were immediately called to the scene, and the victim was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Members of HPD’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Spencer and the victim were acquainted prior to the shooting. Police believe that a heated argument broke out between the two men, escalating rapidly until Spencer allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire.

Spencer was taken into custody without incident. At this time, HPD has not confirmed whether formal charges have been filed, though investigators say the case will be reviewed by the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.

The shooting adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Huntsville, where police have responded to multiple firearm-related incidents in recent months. Authorities are urging residents to come forward with any additional information that may assist detectives as the investigation continues.
