West Charlotte High School Student Killed in Early Morning Shooting

Charlotte, NC – A tragic shooting early Saturday morning has claimed the life of a West Charlotte High School student, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Authorities say officers and emergency personnel responded to the 1600 block of Old Plank Road around 12:26 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

MEDIC quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, CMPD confirmed.

Police have identified the victim as a West Charlotte High School student, though her name has not been publicly released. CMPD noted that the victim, identified by some as Cooper, is not the same student involved in a separate incident with a police officer on Friday at the same school. The student involved in that unrelated incident has not yet been identified.

Detectives are continuing their homicide investigation, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. At this time, no arrests have been announced, and the motive remains under investigation.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or submit tips anonymously online.

This tragedy marks another devastating loss for the West Charlotte High community as police continue to search for answers.
