Driver Arrested in Deadly Stony Brook DWI Crash
A tragic crash in Stony Brook has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist and led to the arrest of a 25-year-old driver on drunk driving charges.
Authorities said the incident occurred early Saturday morning, around 12:30 a.m., at the intersection of Nesconset Highway and Moriches Road. Police reported that Mark Anthony Giordano was behind the wheel when he struck 24-year-old Jerry Diaz, a Nesconset resident riding his motorcycle.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The devastating loss has left the Nesconset community mourning a young life cut short in a crash that authorities say could have been prevented.
Giordano was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
