21-Year-Old Killed in Rollover Crash on U.S. Highway 75 in Montgomery County
A fatal vehicle accident occurred early Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 75 near County Road 3600, southwest of Independence, Kansas, claiming the life of 21-year-old Heath Ellis of Caney.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene after reports of a vehicle on fire following a rollover accident. First responders from the Independence Rural Fire Department, Independence City Fire Department, and Independence EMS extinguished the blaze and discovered Ellis deceased inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Ellis’s 2024 Kia left the roadway for an unknown reason, overturned, and struck a culvert before coming to rest. Authorities have not released additional details, noting that the incident remains under active investigation.
Sheriff Ron Wade extended his condolences to the family, urging the community to respect their privacy and refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information regarding the crash.
