Shooting Reported at U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis; Multiple Victims Being Assessed

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The U.S. Naval Academy was placed on lockdown Thursday after reports of a shooting inside Bancroft Hall, the historic dormitory that houses the Brigade of Midshipmen.

Multiple sources within the Academy confirmed that a former midshipman, previously dismissed from the institution, allegedly returned to campus armed. Witnesses said the individual was seen “knocking on doors pretending to be a military policeman” before gunfire erupted.

Officials reported that multiple victims are being assessed, though details on the number and extent of injuries have not yet been released.

In a statement to Fox News, Lt. Naweed Lemar, Public Affairs Officer for Naval Support Activity Annapolis (NSAA), said:
“Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy. The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available.”

A Defense Department official confirmed awareness of the incident but offered no additional information, citing the rapidly evolving nature of the situation.

Local police and military security remain on site, securing the campus and surrounding area. Authorities urged the public and those connected to the Academy to rely on official updates and avoid speculation until further details are confirmed.
