Evergreen High School Shooting: Suspect Identified as 16-Year-Old Desmond Holly
Authorities have identified the gunman in Wednesday’s Evergreen High School shooting as 16-year-old Desmond Holly. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Desmond died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after wounding two fellow students in the attack.
The shooting began around 12:30 p.m. at the school on Buffalo Park Road. Two students remain hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators confirmed Desmond used a revolver and carried significant ammunition. “He would fire and reload, fire and reload,” said county spokeswoman Jacki Kelley, noting that the suspect attempted to find additional targets but was blocked by locked classroom doors.
Evidence recovered from Desmond’s phone and home suggests he may have been influenced by extremist content, though authorities have not released further details.
The teenager lived with his family outside Kittridge and typically rode the bus to school. Kelley said the scene showed widespread damage with broken windows, shot-up lockers, and numerous unspent rounds left behind.
Officials have not determined whether Desmond targeted specific students. Jefferson County schools have canceled classes as the community grapples with the tragedy.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new details emerge.
