BOULDER, Colo. — Nearly three decades after the tragic death of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, investigators are taking a fresh look at the case with the help of advanced DNA testing methods.
JonBenét was found strangled in her family’s Colorado home in December 1996, a case that has since become one of the most infamous unsolved murders in American history. Despite years of investigation, no suspect has ever been charged.
Authorities confirmed this week that they are re-examining physical evidence, though they have not specified which items are under review. According to JonBenét’s half-brother, John Andrew Ramsey, the renewed process includes both items that were tested in the past and new evidence collected from the basement, where her body was discovered.
The use of cutting-edge DNA technology could provide the most significant breakthrough in the case in decades. Forensic advancements now allow investigators to extract genetic material from items previously considered too degraded or small to analyze.
