$10K Reward Offered for Tips Leading to Arrest in SC State Shootings

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced Monday that a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to arrests and convictions in connection with two shootings that occurred earlier this month at South Carolina State University.

The shootings, which took place on October 4, claimed the life of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler and left a man seriously injured. Investigators say both incidents happened in separate locations on campus — one at Hugine Suites and another near Poplar Hall.

Through the support of an anonymous donor, SLED has allocated $5,000 for each case. The agency is urging anyone with information, particularly those who may have cellphone footage or photos from that night, to come forward.

Individuals can submit media files securely at www.fbi.gov/scstateuniversityshootings, while other tips can be shared with SLED by calling 866-472-8477 or emailing tips@sled.sc.gov.

SLED emphasized that all tips will be handled with the highest level of confidentiality permitted by law. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from the FBI’s Columbia Field Office, as authorities continue to search for those responsible for the deadly attacks.
