25-Year-Old Jujuan Jeffers Killed in Shooting at Lincoln University Homecoming
A tragic shooting marred the Homecoming festivities at Lincoln University, one of the nation’s oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), leaving 25-year-old Jujuan Jeffers from Wilmington, Delaware, dead and six others injured.
The gunfire broke out Saturday evening at the International Cultural Center parking lot, where a tailgate celebration was taking place after the university’s football game. The event, intended to bring students together in pride and unity, turned into a scene of chaos when a dispute escalated into violence.
Jeffers, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the scene. The six injured victims, aged between 20 and 25, are expected to recover from their wounds.
Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, 21, has been identified as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested and is currently being held at the Chester County Prison on a $25,000 bail, facing charges of carrying a firearm without a license.
Authorities have clarified that the violence does not appear to have been premeditated or part of a mass shooting plot. Instead, they believe it was the result of a dispute that quickly escalated. Investigators suspect that multiple shooters were involved and are continuing to review surveillance footage and witness interviews to piece together the details of the incident.
In the aftermath, Lincoln University officials have declared October 27, Monday, as a day of healing and reflection, canceling all classes. A remembrance event for Jujuan Jeffers is also being planned.
The investigation is ongoing, with Chester County Detectives, FBI, and Pennsylvania State Police leading the efforts. Authorities are urging anyone with video evidence to come forward.
“Devastated” was how University Police Chief Marc Partee described the mood, emphasizing that the incident was not a reflection of the university’s values of unity and celebration.
Authorities are still gathering details on the suspects and motive, with further updates expected as the investigation unfolds.
