HARTSELLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A tragic crash in Morgan County has left one teenager dead and several others hospitalized following a police pursuit that ended violently on Saturday night.

According to officials, the incident began when the Priceville Police Department initiated a chase that eventually moved into Hartselle. Around 8:30 p.m., the fleeing vehicle collided near the busy intersection of Highways 31 and 36, causing significant damage and sending multiple victims to nearby hospitals.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn confirmed on Sunday that a 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle was killed. Another victim remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital, while four others sustained injuries of varying severity. Their identities have not yet been released.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody, though no details have been shared about their role in the crash or the events leading up to the pursuit. Police are also withholding further updates about the conditions of the other injured individuals, citing the ongoing investigation.

The intersection where the crash occurred was shut down for several hours as law enforcement, emergency responders, and investigators worked the scene. The area has since reopened to traffic.
