11-Year-Old Witnesses Fatal Shooting in Domestic Dispute on 10th Avenue

COLUMBUS, GA — A late-night domestic dispute turned deadly Wednesday, leaving a 23-year-old man dead and an 11-year-old child traumatized after witnessing the violence unfold.

Police say Jennifer Lynn Goodall, 40, shot Chase Herman in the stomach during an altercation at a residence in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue. The call came in just after 11:21 p.m., and officers arrived to find Herman suffering from a severe abdominal gunshot wound.

Responding officers immediately began CPR as Herman’s condition worsened. Though conscious at first, he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital despite exhaustive efforts from both police and medical staff.

Goodall was arrested at the scene and booked into jail. She faces charges connected to the fatal shooting while the Major Crimes Unit continues its investigation into what sparked the confrontation.

The child who witnessed the incident was not physically harmed but is now at the center of efforts by authorities and community services to ensure they receive proper care and support after enduring such a traumatic event.

The community is mourning Herman, described by those who knew him as a young man whose life ended far too soon. Candlelight vigils are being discussed as neighbors and friends seek ways to honor his memory.

Police have not released further details about the events leading up to the shooting.
